Student Learning Communities – Why Do You Need One?

Student learning communities are same as regular classes, but they are groups of different classes connected throughout the academic term. You might be unaware of this new form of learning, so here is a piece of information on what exactly are these student-learning communities.

Student learning communities enroll common cohort of individuals. In such classes, you have the option of learning different subjects under one roof. Thus, the syllabus of the learning communities is not restricted.

These learning communities are of three types student cohorts, linked courses and coordinated study.

Student cohorts consist of small group of students participating in large classes. This type of learning is effective, because a teacher may coordinate with students located in different parts of the state using web conference facility. This type of student learning community also helps to build intellectual connection as well as community building.

In linked course, you may enroll yourself in two to three classes, connected in a thematic manner. It means that this class consists of students, who study the same core subjects. The faculty formulates the course contest and arranges the same program entirely, which makes this course different from others.

In case of coordinated study, learning communities involve courses taught by faculty members. The study program has defined subjects, which teachers need to follow and teach it to their students.

Next, living learning student communities are another type, wherein students have to enroll and reside in residence halls provided by the institutions. Most higher education colleges use this structure of learning. In this type, students and teachers reside in same location within the institution. In some communities, upper class peers teach the lower class students.

    Importance of Student Learning Communities:

Student learning communities have increased the retention rate of students, enhanced their academic achievements, amplified student involvements as well as intellectual development and students complete their degrees on time.

You can opt for any of such communities, because after enrolling in them, students become mature intellectually. In this type of learning, faculty members continually revise the syllabus, so that students get to study the new content that has value in present days. Faculty members act like mentors and help students with their studies related problems during the tutorial

Such programs inhibit skills such as liking for reading, writing as well as speaking in students, so that they not only become excellent academically, but also excel in other areas. Thus, the syllabus has a proper amalgam of general curriculum as well as real life teachings.

    Overview:

Student learning communities also address several societal issues such as increasing the fragmentation of studies. They also take efforts to decrease the hostility of students towards participation in other college events.

In learning communities, emphasis is on collaboration, experiential learning as well as interpersonal dialogue. It allows the students to relate college learning, while dealing with personal as well as global questions.

Finally, learning communities strengthen the partnership between academic affairs and students. These programs are low cost and you can benefit highly from them. All that you need to do is locate an institution, which implements study structure of learning communities.

Learning To Create Wealth: What You Learned In School, What You Didn’t

      Sunday, August 22nd, 2010No Commented
      Categorized Under: Learning

Schools, colleges, and universities teach us lots of things; lots of useful things that we can really use in life. Unfortunately, in terms of wealth creation, there are also a lot of things school didn’t teach us.

      What You Learned In School

Maybe you are one of a minute and lucky few who got a really progressive education that taught you the components of creating wealth. More than likely, though, you are one among the vast masses who received a basic education, perhaps even occupational education, devoid of true financial education.

Most likely you learned what the rest of the world learned in school. You learned

      - How to read

      - How to write

      - Mathematical theories, some universal laws like physics

      - How to reason (at least to a degree)

      - How to give back what you learned through hours and hours of rote memorization

In a specialized program or during advanced study, you may have learned

      - Specialized knowledge

      - Advanced laws and theories

      - Job skills

If you were lucky, you may have learned some financial skills, like

      - How to open a bank account

      - How to balance a checkbook

What you learned in school was how to go to get a job, how to go to work, collect a paycheck, cash it, and spend it (so that you could go back to work, collect another paycheck, cash it, spend it, go to work). In short, in school you learned how to work for money.

What You Didn’t Learn In School

What you didn’t learn in school was how to think about money and how to use the money that you make effectively. In school, you weren’t taught how to

      - Make fact-based decisions, rather than unconscious, emotionally-based decisions

      - Truly classify assets and liabilities

      - Develop a success-oriented financial attitude

      - Invest your money to make more money

      - Balance good debt and bad debt

      - Understand the money systems of the world

      - Utilize the money systems of the world

      - Create passive income (aka, make money while you sleep)

In short, school didn’t teach you how to make money work for you.

      Why You Didn’t

All of the things outlined above are very real and very possible. They also happen to be the keys to creating wealth so that you can live (truly) financially free. Why, then, didn’t you learn these things in school? It seems reasonable that if school is meant to prepare us for life that we would learn the most efficient and effective means of managing our finances for a lifetime of financial stability. But school isn’t designed to do that. School is designed to prepare us for work, not for life.

A wealth creation education, on the other hand, is designed to accomplish exactly the opposite. A wealth creation education is designed to prepare us for a lifetime of financial freedom and stability. A wealth creation education is designed to teach us all of those essential money making skills and more. A wealth creation education teaches us how to have money work for us, rather than be money’s slave – to teach us to break that vicious cycle and work within the new world financial order, where money works so you don’t have to!

Sean Rasmussen is a stock market and property investor. He likes topics of Self Improvement and teaches wealth motivation. His wealth creation blog deals with topics of making money and generating passive wealth.

The Art Of Learning The Art Of Fine Cooking

When we talk about "The art of fine cooking" some people get a bit confused about what this means. They think it has to do with the fact that fine cooking will taste better then their own cooking but that not is really true. Fine cooking has a lot to do with presentation, how food looks on the plate it served on. Yes it should taste good as well but that is not the same as saying that it tastes better then a home cooked meal. The ‘art’ part in "The fine art of cooking" is probably because sometimes the plates look like little paintings.

Learning Fine Cooking is an art in itself

Have you ever wondered if you would be able to cook like those chefs in those highly acclaimed restaurants? Maybe someone even suggested to you that you should visit a culinary school and start taking lessons. Probably that is not what you need to do, not if it is just for some fun at home or maybe throw a dinner party and impress your friends and family. Their is nothing wrong with following a small course and trying things out by yourself untill you get the hang of it. You do need some natural talent if you want to create a nice display on the plate but if you have that bit of talent then you can go a long way. Do some research by watching television programs about cooking or look what the chef at your favorite restaurant creates for you, maybe ask him or her about the ingredients, if you dare to. Or take a look on the internet if you can find any good tips and recipes but you also need picutres with those then we are talking about the art of fine cooking and that means something for the eye as well.

If your ultimate goal is to find employment in a restaurant that does fine cooking then a bit of cooking and trying out at home will not be enough. Then you should find a good culinary school and attend classes there and finish with a diploma. Have a plan for other employment in the back of your mind because getting a job in the restaurant business will not be easy. You don’t want your talent and time invested in learning the art of fine cooking wasted in a stuffy kitchen at a road diner or some buffet were no one appreciates what you can create. If you can’t find a job the moment you graduate from school and don’t want to relocate then do something completely different so you won’t get disappointed about the profession.

Amateur or professional, when you get the change to show your talent you should do it. Be it for friends and family or for guests in the restaurant you cook for people will appreciate the effort you put in creating a dish that not only makes the taste buts sparkle but also is a pleasure for the eyes. In the end that is what the art of fine cooking is about, to give the mouth and eyes an evening you will not forget.

Kenny Vanderburen is the main blogger at his Cooking Site. The kitchen might as well be his living room, that’s how much time he spends there. Check out his site if you want to know more about slow cooking a prime rib.

You have bad credit — it does not necessarily denote you have plague and you are forever intended to apply for the bad cards. Obviously, it can mean precisely that if you do not take appropriate steps immediately. Here are some things that you need to keep in mind.

The Bad Credit Cards Are Means To End

Yu have messed your credit. Do not expect to get platinum card with great interest rate. As you need to hit bad credit cards very first – ones with annual fees and higher than the usual finance rates.

There are lots of different types of bad credit cards but they can mostly be categorized as the prepaid cards, the secured cards and the unsecured cards.

The Prepaid Bad Cards – As these cards are in fact debit cards specially catered to the people having bad credit. In order to get one, you need to open bank account as well as deposit minimum money required. And this particular amount will serve as "credit limit". Every time you buy anything with your credit card, money is subtracted from account and if money runs out, then you cannot use the credit card unless you are depositing the funds again.

but, this is not credit card as you are not actually borrowing the money, and therefore it will not actually improve the credit rating. However it gives the people with conveniences of the credit cards even though they are not capable to apply for real one because of their bad credit.

The Secured Bad Credit Cards – As these are good credit cards, but in order to apply one, you will need to open savings account, money deposited would be secured one as a collateral by issuing bank. Credit limit is been determined by amount that is deposited, or at times little more than allow cardholder allowance. If cardholder is failing to pay, then bank might take the hold of money in savings account.

Like the other bad credit cards, interest rates as well as other fees are thought to be much higher than the regular credit cards. Some banks might not report this accounts to the credit bureaus thus it is significant to ensure that bank does submit this reports if purpose is to get better cardholder’s credit score.

The Unsecured Bad Credit Cards – As these will work like the regular credit cards though the fees & interest rates are very much higher than the normal credit cards. The cardholder might start with the low credit limit, for about $250 that will boost little by little if account is been kept well. These cards generally need large open fees, & interest rates will be as huge as 25% whereas annual fees might go as huge as $100. However it is generally measured worth paying such price as they can actually get better one’s credit score. Again, it is significant to ensure that issuing bank will does report to the credit bureaus to make sure that credit score does perk up.

People with the bad credit score might still have the chance to get the credit cards. All thanks to the bad credit cards, people can stand the chance.

            Learning Towers: Fun and Imagination

A learning tower is a sturdy, durable, wooden platform that your young child or toddler can safely use to be of counter or table height. A learning tower will safely allow your child or toddler to help with cooking, dishes, crafts or other projects and they can hold more than one child. Children can safely and easily climb onto them which will help build confidence and self esteem in your little person. They have safe, no fall sides so you don’t have to worry about them losing their balance.

Not only do learning towers provide a safe way for your child to help you with activities, they are also easy to clean and assemble. Learning towers can be height adjusted so they will grow with your child, and can be moved from the table to the counter so it does not matter if your child is 18 months old or four years old, if they are a baker or creator of crafts and other projects. You can buy attachments for them and easily transform them into different things like an art easel.

Learning towers will provide a peace of mind for parents because too many times a child has injured themselves from falling off a chair or stool. Learning towers are also safe in the way they are put together. If you find the right manufacturer, you can find a well-made learning tower that will meet the needs of your child.

Because the learning tower is made of wood and sanded smoothly, there are no sharp corners for little ones to get hurt on. The learning tower may be made of wood, but it will be smooth sanded and finished with a splinter-proof surface.. Wood is truly the best option for this type of helping device.

Leaning towers with a little imagination can be magically transformed into a spaceship, playscape, desk, fort or stage; you may be surprise at what else your little one can dream up. Anything that inspires imagination in your child is a good thing.

You can now find learning towers in a variety of color to match almost any décor. And prices may very according to manufacturer so you may want to look around to get the best deal on your tower. They will also make a safe and economical gift for any new mother to be.

If you are already a mother of toddlers, it is a great time to buy yourself and your children a learning tower. If your child has just learned to walk, and is around 18 months old, you can still get over two good years with your child using the learning tower. Also, you will have it already if you decide to have more children. They are made to last long enough to hold up to more than one child, and to store easily.

Learning towers blend imaginative play, practical learning, and safety. What is more, they make it easier for Mom and Dad to get things done around the house. For toddlers and young children, learning towers can be a big help.

Guitar Sheet Music: Learning the Basics

                  Monday, August 16th, 2010No Commented
                  Categorized Under: Learning

Learning how to play the guitar does not only require liking, but also a great deal of patience and passion.

It is observed that many young people who showed interest in playing the guitar did not actually pursue the endeavor because they got exasperated. People should realize early on that they need to develop a great sense of commitment in terms of learning. Watching great guitar players is something that is inspiring, but it takes more than inspiration to learn. The best way to learn, of course is to learn ho to read a guitar sheet music.

Once this is learned, then you will not go bugging other people asking for information on what to press on the guitar. You will be able to find it out yourself and better yet, identify if there are better chords to use for the songs you are playing.

After all, no matter how much information there could be in the Internet regarding guitar sheet music, you should not be surprised that there will be times that the songs you want are not available in terms of guitar chords. The same principle applies to musicians of different instruments like the piano, banjo, bass guitar, flute, and others.

The first step in learning how to play the guitar is to identify the parts of the instrument. Without this knowledge, one will not be able to understand the instruction laid out in many guitar tabs and guitar chord charts. Here are the parts of the guitar:

Nut: this is where the headstock meets the frets. This is the area where there are indents where you place the strings. This is the part that keeps the strings in place. Just imagine if you do not have this, the strings will never be in the right pale and you will not be able to tighten and loosen them.

Headstock: this is where the tuning pegs are found. This keeps the keys in place and this is where you usually put a string to hang your guitar on the wall.

Keys: these are also called tuning pegs. You loosen or tighten them to tune the guitar

Neck: this is the long bar of wood where you find the frets

Body, this is the biggest part where there is a hole in the middle to serve as a resounding board.

Bridge: this is the counterpart of the nut found at the body of the guitar. This is where the end of the strings also rest.

Once you have identified the pars of the guitar. It will be easier for you to read guitar sheet music tabs or chords. Keep in mind that we are discussing a regular six-string guitar here.

The skinniest of these six strings is the E note, called the 1st string and is found at the bottom part in the order of the strings. The second string is the B note, the third the G, the fourth the D, the fifth the A, and the thickest of all is the sixth string called also the E note.

Learning Makes Us What We Are

                    Monday, August 16th, 2010No Commented
                    Categorized Under: Learning

When we are born, the groundwork of our language has already been laid for us. In utero, babies listen to the sounds of our world our parents and other ambient sounds and learn a foundation for sounds and words.

As a child develops, he or she goes through different stages of learning: walking, talking, and interacting. At a certain age, a child is then expected to go to school to learn very specific information.

This might start as early as pre-school at three years old, but many children begin school at age 5 or 6 in Kindergarten.

School introduces a whole set of changes and influences to a child. For children, pre-school is often very, and learning is very basic.

Once a child moves up in grades and reaching high school, the content learned and the work completed become more challenging. There are also huge influences from other children at this stage.

The behavior and actions of other children can greatly affect and influence the other kids, and interrupt the learning process.

Peer pressure is a common issue that children have to deal with. Nearly everyone succumbs to it at one time or another. While this can affect the learning process, it should not cause vast delays. This might lead to the incorrect labeling of some children as having a learning disability.

Sometimes when a child presents exhibits learning or behavior problems, teachers will send the child to a special education class. The problem is the instructors often refuse to handle responsibility, partly due to state mandates.

Children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder do usually have difficulty with learning, because their minds are often moving at faster than average rates. Because they do not learn like the average child, they are often forced to conform to set standards of learning, despite the fact that they are often highly intelligent.

Many children with learning problems are often stunted by a special education environment. They often thrive in a homeschooling setting, because it enables them to learn at their own unique pace.

Home schooling might seem intimidating, but after careful research and preparation, it can be the best thing in the world for your child. If homeschooling is a viable option for your family, it should definitely be considered. Many communities offer extra programs that supplement a childs homeschooling experience, and give him or her the opportunity to socialize with other homeschooled kids.

If your child has been diagnosed with a learning disability, make sure he or she is thoroughly assessed, in order to pinpoint the problem. If your child is recommended for special education, consider how and what he or she will be forced to learn. Your childs educational experience shapes his or her future forever.

How Subliminal Learning Can Make You a Knowledge Machine

The power of the mind is something of a wonder, and a wonder is an apt term to describe it because even now science and medicine has barely scratched the surface of the possibilities of the mind. Sure, we are discovering new things about the mind on a daily basis, but there are so many other areas that we have no idea about. More than 70% of the mind is unchartered territory and we do not have the vessels as yet to bring our scientific instruments to bear upon these strange and wonderful lands in the brain.

While we flail on the sidelines of known reality, the brain is the true space and final frontier in figuring out the reason behind human existence. Just because we cannot figure out if we are actually using these parts of the brain which seem to seem inert doesn’t mean that in some way, they are being used on a daily basis. One of the breakthroughs of the industry and of science itself is subliminal technology, and it is one that caters to passing information straight into the subconscious mind so that greater effect can be wrung from these very subliminal instructions. One of the fabrics of this technology of course is subliminal learning, which is activating the mind to be one knowledge machine. You can turn yourself into a veritable library of information, almost never forgetting what you learn and absorbing all the information into your memory banks.

Not only does subliminal learning help you to learn even when you sleep, it does not stop only at memory retention. Because the information is wired into the very active subconscious mind, what you get is a situation that allows you to implement and practice this information whenever and wherever you want. Sometimes, this becomes sort of an impulse, so it seems that you are always filled with all sorts of information at all times of the day. You can train your brain to do this sort of learning with subliminal technology and the good news is that it only takes a little while a day to do so. The cumulative effect when you finally mould your brain into a learning machine is brilliant. You become an information retaining and application machine without even knowing it.

You even learn when you sleep, which means that you are able to never miss out a beat when it comes to your tests and exams. This application is widespread for your personal, social and professional life and imagine the edge you will have over your peers and competitors with such a talent. And all you need to do is to listen to some subliminal CD’s that will train your subconscious to be that aware. The ability is already inside all of us, man, woman and child and it is just up to a catalysts to release the talent and make you a subliminal learner beyond all measure. With this, the world is truly your oyster.
